Germany international is pleased with his development since moving to Spain, and feels that his club will continue to improve as a whole in 2011-12
Real Madrid and Germany star Mesut Ozil expressed satisfaction with his first year in Spain, and despite Barcelona's recent triumph in the Champions League final, bullishly claimed that the Blancos can match their domestic rivals.
"[The season] went very well for me, I made good progress and we won a trophy. And that's why I moved there: to win titles," he said during a press conference.
The 22-year-old had a spectacular season for Madrid, scoring 10 goals and providing 25 assists in all competitions. Though Madrid beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, the playmaker believes his team failed overall, by losing to their rivals in both the Champions League and La Liga.
Reflecting on the recent Champions League final, Ozil feels Barcelona outclassed Manchester United, but is convinced that Real Madrid will be able to get the better of the Catalan side next season.
"You could see in the final, [Barcelona] were the better team. We have failed and were sad about it. But we know what potential we have. We have the potential to beat Barcelona," he concluded.
The capital city club finished four points behind Barca in the 2010-11 campaign.
